KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – To mark the 100th birthday of the Woodward School for Technology and Research in Kalamazoo, neighbors had a present in mind, but they want to know if the school is going to be around to enjoy it.
The Stuart Area Restoration Association would like to pay to fix the clock in the tower that rises from the roof of the historic elementary school, but they have heard rumors it may be around another 100 years.
Cynthia Whittingham says they have done some of the preliminary work but may not take the next steps if the rumors that the building will be sold are true.
The four sided tower clock has been stuck at 6:35 for years.
Kalamazoo Public Schools has been systematically replacing some of its oldest schools in recent years, but no such final decision has been made on Woodward.
The school underwent a $1.8-million dollar renovation nine years ago, but fixing the clock was not considered to be a priority at the time.
