ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The West Michigan Association of Realtors made a donation to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office in which deputies say will help them keep people safe on the water this summer boating season.
The Sheriff’s Office received the gift of forty-five life jackets on Wednesday, June 1, which will be handed out by the County’s Marine Patrol deputies.
Officials say the donation will allow them to hand out life jackets to those who forget theirs, or have an out-of-compliance vest on their vessel.
They will also hand out the life jackets at several public sites throughout Allegan County for swimmers and boaters in need.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office recommends that boaters take an inventory of their vessel and replace worn out and out-of-date safety devices, along with making sure that boaters have proper fitting life jackets or safety vests for younger children on board.
