KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan State Police have taken over the investigation of the shooting incident in Galesburg early Monday morning.
A sheriff’s deputy responded to a call of an unknown emergency at the Shell station off I 94 at around 3 am.
A suspect confronted the deputy upon his arrival, and was warned several times to drop a knife that he held.
When the suspect, R.V. Johnson of Galesburg, started to move toward the deputy, the officer fired.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.
Further details are unknown, as Sheriff Richard Fuller stated at a press conference Monday, the investigation remains open.
